Home Delivery Vans Go Green

With home delivery becoming an increasingly popular choice with consumers, the supermarket Tesco has taken steps to help minimise the environmental impact of such deliveries by introducing battery powered delivery vans. The first set of battery powered zero-emission home delivery vans are currently running from the Tesco Extra environmental store in Shrewsbury.
The vans, made by Coventry based Modec, have a maximum speed of 50mph and have the same capacity as the standard Tesco home delivery vans. Each van has the potential to save over 21 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, which is the equivalent of driving 51,000 miles.Â
Laura Wade-Gerry of Tesco.com stated, ‘Tesco is committed to reducing carbon emissions throughout the business and we’re very proud to be the first to invest in this new van technology.’
