iPhone launched in UK

iPhoneThe new iPhone by Apple has been one of the most eagerly anticipated gadgets in recent times. Apple boss Steve Jobs has finally ended speculation about its launch date by announcing that it will be available in the UK from 9 November 2007. The cost of the phone will be £269.

The iPhone has been available in the US since 29 June 2007 and has been a massive success, selling over one million units. However, it didn’t get off to the best of starts in terms of environmentally friendliness. Due to an archaic billing system by AT&T Wireless, many people received bills of up to 300 pages long. These bills listed in scientific detail every single bite of information uploaded or downloaded from the phone.

Following hundreds of complaints, AT&T Wireless moved quickly to put an end to these ridiculous bills by sending a text message to all iPhone users stating “We are simplifying your paper bill, removing itemised detail.” People now receive a summary bill and are able to switch to online billing.

A video posted on YouTube by blogger Justine Ezarik from Pittsburgh highlighted the glaring error made by AT&T Wireless. The video, which can be viewed below, has been viewed over 3 million times and shows Justine flipping through her 300 page double sided bill. Hopefully 02 will not make a similar environmental mistake when the iPhone is launched in the UK later this year.
