How to Stop Junk Mail

Sick of receiving piles of junk mail every morning? If you are you are certainly not alone. The majority of households throughout the country will receive some form of junk mail on a weekly, if not daily basis. Not only can it be very annoying, but it can also have a massive impact on the environment. There is however a quick and free way to help reduce up to 95% of the junk mail that you receive.
The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) was set up over 20 years ago by the direct mail industry. The Mailing Preference Service enables consumers to request that their names and addresses are removed from the lists that are used by the industry. This is a completely free service which is funded by the direct mail service.
The names and addresses of people that regster with the Mailing Preference Service are held in the MPS Consumer File. Businesses that make use of direct mail lists are required to use the Consumer File to ensure that people who have requested to be removed from the list are not included in their mail shots.
Although the Mailing Preference Service is not a total block on junk mail, it can help to remove your name from up to 95% of the direct mail lists from which your details for junk mail are obtained. Junk mail that cannot be stopped by the Mailing Preference Service includes junk mail sent from overseas, mail addressed to ’The Occupier’ and junk mail that is un-addressed.
