By admin on May 27, 2007 in WEEE Directive, Recycling, Business
The WEEE Directive is the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive. The aim of the WEEE Directive is to increase levels of recovery and recycling, thereby reducing the amount of electrical and electronic waste going to landfill.
The importance of the WEEE Directive is emphasised by the fact that WEEE is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK. It is estimated that the average person in the UK produces 3.3 tonne of WEEE waste during their lifetime.
There are 10 categories of WEEE:-
- Large household appliances
- Small household appliances
- IT and telecommunications equipment
- Consumer equipment
- Lighting equipment
- Electrical and electronic tools
- Toys, leisure and sports equipment
- Medical devices
- Monitoring and control equipment
- Automatic dispensers
If your business produces any of the above waste streams, contact a waste management company that is able to provide a WEEE recycling service.
